I have to admit this caught my eye. Sparkly. Then I read on and thought "well, huh... Chinese import?" Ironic. I'm not actually into Amish style. I've never had the chance. The woman my father married did some fairly nice quilting in the earlier years of her life and now, with her aging alcoholic self, can't shut up about what she did (read: karen's work doesn't count this way) and the only quilts that matter are Amish quilts. So now... I know this is childish but... she's ruined them for me. Not fair. I know. But I did have visions of beauty when I looked at this one and saw it sparkle!

Another really interesting quilt. There are some neat blocks - esp the ones using plaids. And what a deal!! I think your idea for borders is a good one. I like that big blue floral with it.

Hi Ann. Wow what a find. I love the audition prints but I think if you did a narrow border in an accent color (the poison yellow?) then a wide dark solid, even black? border it would really play up the graphic quality of the design, make it look almost Amish-moderne (fi such a thing existed, lol.) The dark border could display your gorgeous hand quilting too.
Whatever you decide, it will be beautiful. So wonderful that you valued this textile, gave it a home and a future.

love

Lovely ..... I have a few more to do and then I can start putting my baskets on the design wall. Like you, I've been doing one here and there and they really to add up after a while.

It definitely was worth all your 300 pennies, Ann! Your ideas will keep it with the modern feel, at least contemporary retro! Hope you're feeling better, too.

I think there may have been a collective sigh when your last sentence was read. So much work, and put out without regard. Good for you for giving it a good home.
My suggestion for finishing is to use that lime green that is in the centre of a couple of blocks as a thin border (perhaps a solid) and then I prefer the first large scale Kaffe Fassett fabric.

Wow this is great. I really like the idea of a narrow darker border then the wide print. Both are fab, but I like the first one best!

I love this pattern, but I know it as "Kansas Dugout." I made one with feedsack prints after seeing it on the cover of McCall's Vintage Quilts magazine.

Looking at the photos of your pretty top, I can see that this pattern also lends itself nicely to a contemporary look, and I like your idea for the borders.
