At long last..I’ve finished the applique on the Princess Feather quilt top. It measures 94″x94″. I will bind it with the same fabric I’ve used for sashing.
This was such a fun project! I kept track of the hours I’ve worked on this quilt top and right now I’ve got 474 hours into the piecing/applique.
I think I’ll quilt a 1/4 wreath in each corner of the center blocks and maybe some sort of grid in the background?
I already have a quilt in the quilting hoop so this will have to wait it’s turn. I wish I could wave a magic wand and have the quilting done..or could afford to send it out for machine quilting.

BRAVO! Just beautiful! I love that you kept track of the hours you put into this. Sometimes I think about trying that, but at some point I always forget. This is just stunning!
Ann!, that is absolutely STUNNING!!
Wow Ann, what a masterpiece, your applique is incredible. This is an heirloom xo
Ann, your Pricess Feather is absolutely gorgeous! I can’t imagine appliquing it.
A big hurray. I have been watching the progress. You made good time on those borders.
Ann, it’s just fantastic! What a great effort to get it finished. I love it and you’ve done a beautiful job of the colours. Clapping and cheering for you.
This is absolutely amazing, I cannot even imagine approaching this kind of work! You have done yourself proud.
What an amazing quilt! I can’t find the words to compliment you!
Congratulations to this georgous result!
Stunning! It has been so great to watch this quilt evolve over the months. Many congratulations.
It’s just a glorious quilt — so wonderful to enjoy and also have as a fabulous heirloom in your family. You must be very proud. I really like your idea for hand quilting — and I love it that it’s going to be a completely hand made quilt by Ann Champion.
474 hours? When and where do you usually work on your quilts? I would love to know how much time I’ve spent on some of my quilts, but since I skip around so much I’ll probably never bother to keep track.
Thanks for taking all of us on this quilt journey — can’t wait to see the quilting!
Absolutely beautiful – one of my favourite quilts!
Hugs – Lurline♥
I absolutely LOVE this quilt. You did a wonderful job on it!
How utterly beautiful. Just awesome. I love you kept track of time. I’ve always wanted to try a Princess feather, but if I do, I know I won’t put that time in an appliqued border. Again, just an outstanding quilt top.
Truly one of the most spectacular quilts I have seen in a long time. Bravo. You are amazing.
Congratulations on the amazing, amazing quilt!!
Martha..every quilt I do has a work sheet that goes with it. I keep track of the cost of materials, hours spent piecing and/or appliqueing, and quilting. I keep the paper on the little table next to my recliner where I do most of my hand work. The worksheet lets me know how long a particular style of quilt will take to make, and helps me put a value on it. I started keeping track years ago when I did quilting for others, so I’d know what to charge.
Thanks so much for the nice compliments on my quilt. The colors on this were out of my comfort zone and a bit of a challenge, but it was fun to do!
Holy cow! Beautiful. Insane.
I love the pallette, that bit of an unusual twist takes the quilt from impressive to stunning!
Beautiful!! And inspiring! Congratulations!!
Brilliant, Ann!!! You should feel so…SEW proud of this BEAUTY!!! : ) What an heirloom you have stitched. : ) It’s truly breathtaking. I feel all excited for you!!!

barb
Well done ….. and that was a lot of work and the hours you tallied up doing it ….. but what a fabulous quilt you will have.
It is so beautiful – congrats on getting the top done.
Wow, Ann, it’s spectacular! I can’t imagine attempting anything this challenging.
Wow Ann…..its just absolutely breathtaking! Your work continues to be such an inspiration to me though I think that your caliber is well out of my reach. I love everything about this quilt, your color combination is perfect, I couldn’t even imagine getting this quilt done in 4000+ hours let alone 400+.
Just lovely!!
I think this is just beautiful. Can’t wait to see how you end up quilting it.
Ann, that is truly spectacular!!! Thank you for choosing my pattern for your heirloom quilt – I’m truly humbled! Next time, I’ll make sure the instruction for the borders is a mitred one. When it is all quilted, please post the photograph, love to see it. I hope you will send it to a quilt show in the future, everyone would love to see it.
An amazing quilt! The colors are gorgeous and just pop on that background! What talent!
Congratulations! What a project, and what a beauty!
Yes this is an amazing quilt, love the colors you work with, great project!!
Stellar! Fun, wasn’t it? I am working on Kim McLean’s Lollypop Trees. I finished the top and am now working on hand quilting it. It is still so much fun. (Not as fun as the applique work though.) I am looking forward to the next Fassett hand applique. I am also making my 2 year old a big girl quilt out of the same fabrics. Simpler. But still fun. I love your quilt!
Ann,
Your quilt looks amazing! I also read your applique instructions using the freezer paper and I am going to have to try that sometime! I like to use the paper for the template but I have removed it in the past before needle-turn. I will give your method a try. It certainly sounds promising!
I like your idea of keeping the track of the time and money spent on the quilt. I have been working on an applique pattern of my own. I wish I had kept track of time from the beginning!
So much to learn!!!
