I’m starting a new project. The pattern is called Return to the Past and comes from a book titled Every Seven Years by Gerry Kimmel-Carr.

It’s the quilt that’s shown on the front cover of the book.
It’s kind of funny because Gerry got her inspiration from an antique quilt, but changed the green to blue in her version. I’m going back to fabrics more like the original.
I belong to a Prim and Folk Art yahoo quilting group. The group Mother wanted us to sign up to do a bed sized quilt of our choosing, but do it as a BOM. We were told to divide the project into 12 sections. On the last day of each month we are supposed to post a pic of that month’s block/portion of the quilt.
It’s hard for me to BOMs. I get my fabrics out and get all revved up about the project, then do one block and have to set it aside. I generally prefer to keep going once I start something or I’ll loose my enthusiasm.

I’ve gotten block 1 done and have set the project aside..for now. I made a bunch of bias stem pieces and rolled them onto an empty toilet paper roll so it’s ready to go next time.
I do my quilting in the Winter months but I didn’t mind stopping for this month’s block. At some point though, I may just keep going on the applique and just post pics to the group when I’m supposed to?
The center block and the borders have birds in them. I’m looking forward to doing those. I love birds!

Beautiful! You’re still the queen of applique! I’m a firm believer in momentum and think you should keep going with the blocks!
oh Ann I have always wanted to make this quilt too
I love it
I vote for you to make the blocks when you want and have the quilt done when you want! then just post to the group if you feel like thats necessary
I am the same way
I like working at my own pace! you will have the quilt quilted and using it before they even finish their blocks! and you will be happy!
off to get that book out…..
I am soooo tempted

I have wanted to make this quilt for a number of years. Something new always seem to get in the way and I am off on the new project. I really, really like your red & green version of the quilt. I hope you can stick with it and finish up the blocks.
Anne you always pic the best quilts to work on! I love your first block!! excellent fabric choices of course!! I know you will have this all completed by spring..you are not called “Finisher” for nothing..
I understand that feeling of wanting to keep going while the inspiration is strong and the enthusiasm is high. I would just keep going and take photos of each block as you complete it so you can post the pictures to the group. Maybe in a few months you will get sidetracked by other projects and take a mini-break from it any way. I say work at your own pace.
I have always loved that quilt! It’s been on my *eventually* list for years. *Eventually* is running out, however! I’d better get going on some of these projects!
I really like your color selections, Ann! Are you using reproduction fabrics? Lovely work! ; )
What a cute block! I’m sure the quilt will be lovely!!
The book that has this pattern has several that I’d like to do!
Pam…the fabrics I’m using aren’t reproductions..other than the gold print (I think?) The green actually has a tiny metallic gold dot in it, which is barely noticeable. I chose it for the color. The red came from Joann fabrics and is one they are using in their current BOM. It has a dappled color which I thought gave the appearance of some age? The gold is a Peter Pan fabric (I don’t think they are still in business?) that I got at a yard sale.
I’ve been looking and red and green quilts in my books lately and wanted a quilt that will look like an antique when it’s done.
Beautiful block – and what a nice new project. I love long term projects, they are so satisfying.
Good Luck – and keep us posted.
this is going to be a gorgeous quilt… you are so talented…
Beautiful block! The green you are using is so pretty.
It’s sure to be a beauty, Ann! I think, when finished, you will have achieved your desired antique look. ; )
I think it’s a great idea to just work at your own pace, too. I’ve been thinking about doing that w/ a BOM that I just started, too….think it’s better to work while motivated on a particular theme. Your block is beautiful, I love these fabrics and your first block…this will surely be an heirloom piece when finished
That is going to be a beautiful quilt! I have a hard time with BOM’s too but it sounds like you have a plan this time. I can’t wait to see your progress!
